The liberties that the Magna Carta enshrined and gave momentum to are supported by the Democrats and Veterans Party in restoring those liberties in 2018.

The Magna Carta established a number of liberties and code of conduct of government, including:

  • Politicians are not above the law
  • Nobody can be convicted without a fair trial
  • The right to trial by jury
  • No one can have their property seized without legal justification
  • No one can be arbitrarily arrested without evidence
  • No taxes could be levied without the consent of the realm

Example clauses:

39: no free man shall be imprisoned or deprived of his lands except by judgement of his peers or by the law of the land

40: To no one shall we sell, delay or deny right justice

The Magna Carta established property rights and boundaries which were legally enforceable. This was an important improvement.

Respecting property rights has led to a respect for human rights.

A recent example is the period during the cold war, when there were military dictators in South America and communist dictators in China and the Soviet Union.

Many people couldn’t understand why in Communism there were 10’s of millions who lost their life through the state, and in military dictatorships, there were 10’s of thousands who lost their lives.

Then it was realised that in the military dictatorships, property rights were respected, which had more respect for life, even though less for liberty at the time.

So how is the Democrats and Veterans Party energising the spirit of liberty and what similarities with the build up to the establishment of the Magna Carta are there?

DEMOCRATS AND VETERANS PARTY – THE SPIRIT OF MAGNA CARTA

Here’s how the Democrats and Veterans Party wants the Magna Carta to chart a course for the UK:

  1. Withdrawing our full EU membership so that people who were not elected cannot override laws made in the UK
  2. Petition and referendum on issues, local and national, ensuring that the will of the people can be heard
  3. Repeal of the European Arrest Warrant, which currently allows for any citizen in the UK to be extradited by a foreign EU judge, without evidence needed in a UK court of law
  4. A reduction in taxation, so that people who are on minimum wage will not pay income tax
  5. Restore British courts as the highest courts and prevent arbitrary decisions by the European Court of Justice – e.g. prisoners the right to vote – overriding British laws and common sense
  6. The restoring of border and immigration controls, to ensure that livelihoods of people British citizens are not lowered by higher accommodation costs and pressure on lowering wages, and also destruction of the environment to make housing provision for unnecessary immigration.

Just like in 1215 and after when the King reneged on the Magna Carta, so have successive politicians in Government who want to reverse or dilute the Referendum victory to leave the EU.

It’s either rule by the EU or our own British Parliament. The Democrats and Veterans Party is committed to giving British citizens the right to choose who governs them and to be subject to British law.

Democrats and Veterans Party policy is also removing the ‘occupation of Britain’ by the EU.

Yes, occupation.

Let’s look at what happened during the Second World War – which the allies won.

A country in Europe decided to cross international borders and take away self-government of other European countries, by:

  • their military,
  • control of legal system,
  • control of taxation,
  • control of education,
  • control of currency,
  • control of media,
  • impose a free movement of people for their own people,
  • and control of culture.

No referendums were given.

Countries such as the Netherlands, which chose neutrality, were ignored and had their liberties taken away.

The similarities to what’s happening today are striking, except without the military force (at this present time).

Democrats and Veterans Party policies are FOR restoring Self-Government and also supporting Self-Government in other countries.

This respect for boundaries and the upholding of politicians being subject to the law and prevented from signing away liberties is a central part of our policy.

The Magna Carta established the respect for property and helped with idea of property rights and so led to free enterprise and the industrial revolution and the improvements in the lives of billions of people.

The same spirit of liberty outlawed slavery.

THE ENEMY IS BIGGER, BOLDER, MORE CRAFTY

This time around, the forces signing away liberty and prosperity…

  • have more money,
  • control of most of the TV,
  • radio and print media,
  • supporters in big business,
  • big banking and media cartels,
  • and falling voter support.

They have all been defeated before and we look forward to campaigning with fellow Eurosceptics at this critical crossroads in our future.

The Democrats and Veterans Party is a multi-racial, pro-democracy party and the re-establishment of democracy, border controls and immigration controls will help the country move into balance again.

The referendum on who governs the UK, Parliament or the EU, was similar to a ‘Magna Referendum’.

It was an opportunity for the British people to realise that the last line of defence in democracy was their vote. It was their voice to help restore freedom, justice and prosperity for the many.

I could not agree more, we had our vote and the people made their choice. We voted to leave ans the will of the people has to be completed to the letter. Out is out. I did not vote to stay part in and a wee bit of this and a little of that, I vote to leave. I do not like and never have liked that people that I do not live in the UK can set rule laws on how I and other UK citizen live. Telling our fishermen and farmers what they can catch and grow. Set out laws hidden in agreements that dictates the size of our armed froces. Over ruling our nations courts. What will be next? taking away our sovereignty and our monarchy? I thnk not, Not then, Not now Not ever!

All very laudable and the reason why I joined this party.  But, at the moment it is totally irrelevant.  The government are riding roughshod over the people and there's nothing we can do about it.  The only way we can make any lawful change is through a G.E. but we ain't going to get one.  The Lib/Lab/Cons know very well that they are finished in this country for a very long time and so won't call for one soon.  Do turkeys vote for Christmas?  We must bide our time and prepare, to the utmost, to win and win big at such time as we do get another say.  Meanwhile, we let them have more and more rope with which to hang themselves.
Just because you are offended, doesn't mean you are right.

Our political system is in a terrible mess, desperate need for new parties to replace the corrupt main stream we are currently stuck with. I'm ready to fight for our freedom, what the government are doing amounts to nothing more than treason. We need to grow the following greatly and fast ... I think her last gasp might be a General Election, in an attempt to bring us to aour knees and let the EU sweep up what's left ...

Every MP in our nation should be hanging their heads in shame and should be begging us for forgiveness!
They have made our Parliament a laughing stock throughout the world! But like myself I am sure the rest of you know that they do not care! as they kow best, they believe that those that voted to leave didnt understand or know what we voted for! Who dare they!

I feel and do believe that the way things are going now with Brexit this lot could not organise a piss-up in a brewery! and that within 6 weeks we will be informed that there will be a General Election. When it happends the people throughout the whole UK can take back control and send then a very strong message and vote this shower out of government.

But will we?

We have to be ready, we need to get out there and spread the word, and if we need to work with all other pro-brexit parties to bri ng the House of Cowards down! They have showen us their true colours, they have not delieverd what they said they would do and were voted in to deliever and that was Brexit! They need to remember its them that should be dancing to our tune, not the other way around!

We have the power to remove them when the time comes, let the people know that time will be soon!
